Alternative energy features are really interesting to us. Solar panels, radiant heating, gray water systems…I’m looking into all of them, but finding cost is still sort of prohibitive. Green roofing may be the cheapest alternative (if it’s done right to begin with, but that entails extra roof support and extra water-proofing the roof).
While I doubt that we go with a green roof (just based on our future house’s sloped roof and our HVAC system taking up a lot of space up there), it is a cool idea to incorporate for the future over our studio in conjunction with the roof deck.
Is it possible to have a mini green roof using potted plants or raised beds? I’m not sure this would serve the purpose that green roofs do–saving energy and naturally cooling your place–but it would be nice to look at up there.
