Cargotecture

Cargotecture refers to using shipping containers as architecture.  Cargotecture isn’t a new word, but it seems to have been revitalized recently with Sunset Magazine’s new Idea House.

Sunset unveiled their Idea House last weekend and it’s cute and green (fully solar-powered with additional energy features), but so small (just a 24′ container, which means only 192 square feet) and awfully expensive ($59,500).  Check it out below:

I like the landscaping, the energy ideas within, and the shade sail, but otherwise, I can’t see that this tiny place is doing anything revolutionary.  In my opinion, to more effectively introduce Cargotecture to the mainstream, a slightly larger place with a bit more architectural appeal would have been better.
